I just attended the Internet Boot Camp, and it was just what I needed. Now I have a better understanding on how the web world works, how to get things done for free, or little money, and how to hire a web master if I can afford to pay for web services.
I highly recommend this seminar to every person interested in getting better business results.

Here's a great article in the Scientific American by a hacker who uses information freely available online to get into individual online banking accounts. http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=anatomy-of-a-social-hack

Seth Grodin makes a good, similar point, as an antrepreneur, not a vendor. I agree with him because I'm an entrepreneur, too, but I also pay for stuff.

"Pay for stuff

As a bootstrapping entrepreneur, my instinct has always been to work before spend. If there was a way to spread the word virally instead of buying ads, I would. If there was a way to change the project so I could do it myself, I would. If I could trade or whittle my way into getting an asset on the come, I would. That's the mantra of the bootstrapper.

It turns out that paying for stuff works too.

Ads that pay for themselves are worth buying. Employees and freelancers that produce more than they cost are worth hiring. Office rents that generate productivity, foot traffic or revenue are probably worth paying.

In the free media world in which we're living now, it's so easy to get stuck on not investing, on avoiding outlays at all cost. Frugal is an admirable trait, but being a miser is dumb."

I received a comment from Gabriele, a woman who marketed a spa in Miami Beach. Here's her valuable input as to how she did it:

"I listened to your video on Facebook, very informative information.

"Another option besides networking in person and online that works very well in marketing Spa Services is to go to all area Hotels and speak to the concierges; they usually receive between 10% and 20% for referrals.

"I visted about 150 Hotels in Miami Beach, Bal Harbor, Brickell, Coconut Grove and Coral Gables on a weekly basis when I was marketing Le Spa Lancome.

"We first invited them for a free facial or other spa service. We got tremendous referrals on a daily basis.

"We also set up events in hotel lobbies and offered free massages and make-up. For e.g. Schecky's NY travel events - the ladies were here on vacations and received a free make-up session in the hotel lobby before going to the clubs in the evening. We offered discounted full services at the Spa for the participants.

"We also offered chair massages during film festivals and events at the Botanical Garden etc. Not to forget the gift bags; we always added our gift certificates in gift bags (all events). Museums, Openings, Premiers, Fundraisers, etc."

So, here's even more great advice, directly from the trenches! Thank you, Gabriele!
